Lieutenant General Stephen Lanza Joins the Center for Climate and Security Advisory Board

LtGen Lanza_USA_RetThe Center for Climate and Security is pleased and honored to announce that Lieutenant General Stephen Lanza, United States Army (Retired), has joined its distinguished Advisory Board of military, national security and foreign policy leaders.

LtGen Lanza recently retired from the Army, where his last assignment was as U.S. Army Commanding General and Senior Mission Commander for Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Tacoma, Washington. As the Senior Army Commander of JBLM, he led the nation’s most important joint power projection platform in the West Coast, providing superior leadership to 14 major subordinate commands and seven directorates and orchestrating their efforts to train, equip, and care for over 155,000 service members and civilians across the U.S. Armed Forces.  (more…)

Alice C. Hill Joins the Center for Climate and Security Advisory Board

Hill_Alice Alice C. Hill is the newest distinguished member of the Center for Climate and Security Advisory Board. Alice is also a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, where her work focuses on catastrophic risk, including the impacts of climate change. She previously served at the White House as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Resilience Policy on the National Security Council.  Hill led the creation of national policy regarding resilience to catastrophic risk. Her work spanned development of the first ever federal flood risk standard, creation of a national drought plan, expanding federal focus on the Arctic and addressing national security and climate change. John Conger Joins The Center for Climate and Security Advisory Board

John CongerThe Honorable John Conger is  the newest distinguished member of the Center for Climate and Security Advisory Board. He is an independent consultant and President of Conger Strategies and Solutions, LLC.  He is also a non-resident senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Mr. Conger previously served as the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), from December 2015 to January 2017.  As principal deputy comptroller, Mr. Conger assisted the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) in the performance of his or her duties, provided advice to the Secretary of Defense on all budgetary and financial matters, including the development and execution of the Department’s annual budget of over $500 billion, and oversaw the Department’s efforts to achieve audit readiness. The Center for Climate and Security Welcomes New Advisory Board Members

C&S LOGOThe Center for Climate and Security is pleased to welcome four new distinguished members to its Advisory Board: Vice Admiral Dennis V. McGinn, United States Navy, (Ret), Rear Admiral Leendert “Len” Hering Sr., United States Navy (Ret), Rear Admiral Ann C. Phillips, United States Navy (Ret) and Joan D. B. VanDervort. Together, they have 126 years of experience serving the U.S. Department of Defense, and are four of the nation’s leading experts on climate change risks, energy systems, and how these interact with U.S. military infrastructure, force readiness, and the global operating environment.
