Will Rogers’ work at the Center for a New American Security

CNASOur colleague Will Rogers, most recently the Bacevich Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), is moving on to serve as military legislative assistant to Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii. As such, we would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the excellent work he has done for CNAS. Climate Adaptation A Crucial Part of African Peace and Security

The workshop was co-sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Institute for Security Studies, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and U.S. Department of State. ACORE’s Power Generation and Infrastructure Forum

091014-N-8273J-024The American Council on Renewable Energy, which is run by distinguished Vice Admiral Dennis V. McGinn, USN (ret), is hosting its “Power Generation and Infrastructure Forum” on April 18 in Portland, Oregon. The forum will explore the “opportunities and challenges related to the expanded use of renewable electricity in the western U.S.” For full details, check out their website. Judging by past ACORE fora, this should be both a stimulating and productive session.

Margaret Thatcher on Climate and Environmental Risks

Margaret_Thatcher_headshotMargaret Thatcher, the late former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is known for many things. But her stance on climate change risks is usually not one of them.

As reported by the BBC news today, Prime Minister Thatcher expressed grave concerns about environmental degradation and climate change in the late 1980s. Though UK policies at the time did not necessarily match the rhetoric, and Thatcher’s public views changed later in life, her speech at the United Nations on November 8, 1989 allegedly had a significant impact on civil society in the UK.
