Capitol Hill Event: Enhancing Mission Resiliency Against Environmental Threats

The American Resilience Project & the Center for Climate and Security present “Enhancing Mission Resiliency Against Environmental Threats: A Conversation About Issues Raised in the Film Tidewater,” hosted by Members of the House Armed Services Committee: Rep. Elise Stefanik (R, NY); Rep. James Langevin (D, RI); Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D, NH).

A panel and discussion will follow the film featuring Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Maureen Sullivan, former Asst. Secretary of the Navy Dennis McGinn, and former DOD Deputy Comptroller John Conger. The panel will be moderated by Heather Messera of the Center for Climate and Security.

Video: Hill Briefing on Climate Change and the U.S. Military’s Mission

IMG_9747On June 5, The Center for Climate and Security (CCS), the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HMJ) hosted a briefing on Capitol Hill exploring climate change risks to U.S. national security – particularly, the effect on Department of Defense (DoD) force readiness, missions and infrastructure. The discussion ranged from prospective impacts on overseas missions, to the current effects of sea level rise and increased flooding on the daily lives of service members and their families on military bases and surrounding communities throughout the United States. Event: Climate, Energy, and Security with Senators Graham and Whitehouse

Graham_Whitehouse_HeadshotsPlease join the Center for Climate and Security and its partners for a bipartisan-sponsored event on Capitol Hill this Tuesday, May 16, at 2:00 pm. The event, titled “Energy, Security, and Climate Solutions: Moral, Military and Business Perspectives” will be held at the Senate Hart Building Room 902, Washington, D.C. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) will give opening remarks, followed by a panel moderated by Greta Van Susteren. Panelists include:

  • Mitch Hescox, President, Evangelical Environmental Network
  • General Ron Keys, USAF (Ret), Advisory Board, The Center for Climate and Security

Former Reagan Secretary of State George Shultz: “If You Wait Until You’re Boiling, You May Have Missed Your Moment”

C38208-20This past Friday, March 8, the Partnership for a Secure America hosted a discussion on Capitol Hill with George Shultz, former Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan and one of 38 distinguished signatories of a bi-partisan statement on climate change and security. It was a fascinating discussion, and included some great insights from the former Secretary.
