Michael Songer is a Government Affairs Fellow at the Center for Climate and Security, where he works with the Director of Government Affairs engaging the U.S. government on issues of climate and national security. Before joining the Center for Climate and Security, Songer served as a HillVets Legislative Fellow in the Office of Senator Cory Booker. In this role, he reviewed, recommended, and advised on veterans’ issues, including proposals to enhance policy and legislation. Additionally, he engaged with a variety of stakeholders on policy and legislation matters.

Prior to joining Senator Booker’s staff, Songer served as a Security Forces Specialist in the U.S. Air Force. His last assignment was with the 35th Security Forces Squadron in Misawa, Japan, where he served as Flight Chief and as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Physical Security. During his career in the Air Force, Michael deployed twice to Afghanistan and spent a year in Iraq on a Police Transition Team. He earned an M.A. in History from Arizona State University and a B.A. in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Organizational Law Enforcement Leadership from American Military University.
