Esther Sperling
Research Fellow

Esther Sperling is a Research Fellow with the Center for Climate and Security. Previously she served as Program Manager of Climate Security at the American Security Project (ASP), a D.C.-based security think tank. She has a Masters in Global Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University. While at Johns Hopkins, she focused on the security threats of climate change with a focus on South Asia. Her studies included field research in Nepal, where she studied the current and anticipated impacts of climate change on Nepal and spoke with local NGOs and civilians on current adaptation measures.

Esther also has a Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Studies from Dickinson College. As an undergraduate, she attended the UN COP 17 in Durban, South Africa where she interviewed delegates and climate change and security experts in order to create a database of interviews on the subject of the Kyoto Protocol. Prior to working at ASP, Esther worked for multiple D.C. associations and a wind energy supplier.
