UN University is providing an extraordinary resource for those interested in the nexus of water, conflict and cooperation. Essentially, they have excavated 20-years’ worth of academic articles on the subject from beneath the journal pay-wall, complied them all in one place, and made them free to access through 2014.

The articles are broad-ranging, and there are a few that touch on the water, climate change and security nexus as well. For example, Paisley and Henshaw explore the  interplay of population growth, climate change, and disputes between nations that share the Nile Basin, and recommend that donors integrate these complexities into their development financing, and encourage a more sophisticated and equitable management of transboundary waters.

This is consistent with some of our own work on the subject, including past articles on the Nile Basin, Egypt, Libya and Syria, and our multi-author publication, “The Arab Spring and Climate Change.”
